The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) grant a contribution of $300,000 to continue the services provided by the Psychosocial Support Fund for artists and cultural workers in Quebec

MONTREAL, August 22, 2023 — The Artists’ Foundation is pleased to announce $300,000 in financial support from the CALQ to ensure the continuity of its psychosocial assistance program, in direct support of Quebec’s various artistic sectors.

Requests for psychosocial support continue to be received in large numbers by the Artists’ Foundation, reflecting a real need among Quebec’s cultural workers. Thanks to this additional contribution, the Artists’ Foundation will be able to respond favorably to over 350 new applicants who have not yet been able to benefit from this service.

The Psychosocial Support Fund enables eligible artists and cultural workers to benefit from consultations with recognized professionals through a service partner of the Artists’ Foundation, or to receive an amount to cover part of the fees of their own therapists.

Since April 2021, this Fund has directly improved the overall health of workers in the cultural sector and is an indispensable preventive tool. To date, more than 1,200 artists, artisans and cultural workers have seen their socioeconomic conditions improved thanks to the close and successful collaboration between the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and the Artists’ Foundation.

The Chairman of the Artists’ Foundation, Mr. Michel Laperrière, and the Executive Director, Ms. Hélène Côté, welcome this news with great enthusiasm: “By maintaining this Fund, the Artists’ Foundation is establishing a kind of social safety net to complement community and public network services. CALQ’s constant attentiveness and support are helping to ensure the program’s longevity, while also preventing psychological distress in our sector.”
